All is ‘perfect’ so far for new United signing McCormack
PERFECT – it is not a word usually associated with the League of Ireland, but it is the first word which Conor McCormack uses to describe his first few weeks as a Galway United player.
The 30-year-old midfielder will be a crucial addition to the United squad this year, bringing bags of experience and a winning mentality that will be crucial in what promise to be one of the tightest First Division title races in some time.
His move to United was one of the shocks of the close season, given that he was leaving a Premier Division club that he was captain of, that he had another year on his contract with, and that didn’t want him to leave. But the lure of working with John Caulfield again was too attractive to resist, says McCormack.
“Everything has been perfect so far, it is great to get in and have seen the structure that Galway United have here now. I have worked withj John before and he is assembling a good squad so I am really looking forward to the season.
“He is probably the best manger in the League of Ireland and I have no doubt well have success here. Hopefully we can get through preseason without too many injuries, get a good start to the league and get some momentum built early,” he says.
That momentum is building already – United have played three pre-season friendlies so far, against Premier Division sides Finn Harps, Sligo Rovers, and Longford Town, recording wins over Harps and Longford, and drawing with Sligo, perfect preparation for a division that will see the mother and father of all battles for the sole automatic promotion spot.
