Aldi gets go ahead for Knocknacarra store
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Discount store Aldi has been successful in securing planning permission for a new store in Knocknacarra.
The single storey discount foodstore with off licence can now be built at Knocknacarra District Centre.
RGDATA, the representative association for independent grocers had objected to Aldi’s plans for Knocknacarra.
The association argued that the retail needs of the western suburbs of the city are already catered for.
However, despite this objection, city planners have granted permission for the Aldi store with 21 conditions attached.
One condition is that a revised site layout plan be submitted in which the car parking areas are paved.
Also, the size of the off-licence must be agreed in writing with the planning authority and the development must include a professional piece of artwork.
