Airport to cut queues for screening

PASSENGERS at Galway Airport can expect a more streamlined departure experience in the coming weeks, as the first phase of the facility’s terminal reconfiguration is rolled out.
At the moment, passengers flying out of the Carnmore airport wait in the bar and restaurant area for their flight, and don’t go through airport security until their flight is called, which can often lead to queues at the screening area.
But the airport hopes to have its new, more spacious passenger screening area operational by the end of this month. Under this new system, passengers can go through security immediately after checking in, and onto the departures area — where Aviate, the bar and restaurant facility, will now be located — where they can wait for their flight to be called.
This is referred to as a ‘trickle feed’, and allows for a constant flow of passengers through the security area,which will be manned at all times.
It’s envisaged this new system will help minimise queues at the passenger screening area, and allow for a more streamlined departure experience.
