Aimsithe – new exhibition from AKIN group
Aimsithe (Discovered) is the title of a new exhibition from Jay Murphy, Dolores Lyne, Leonie King, Margaret Irwin and Sioban Piercy which is part of this year’s Oughterard Courthouse Arts Programme (OCAP). All five are members of the artists’ collective AKIN. It will open online this Friday evening, July 24.
Aimsithe was originally planned as part of a project entitled Set in Stone. This OCAP initiative formed part of the Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture Small Towns Big Ideas programme. The project was based on research carried out by local archaeologist and historian Bill Daly, who traced Oughterard’s history back to Neolithic times.
OCAP, a voluntary group which normally runs a programme of visual art exhibitions in Oughterard Courthouse throughout the summer, had planned that its three exhibitions for this year would be a response his research – as part of Galway 2020.
However, those plans have had to be deferred due to Covid-19, but the exhibitions have gone ahead online, with Aimsithe being the final one.
It will be launched online this Friday, July 24 and will run for two weeks.
