AIDS WEST CONCERNED ABOUT RISE IN HIV FIGURES

AIDS West is describing the rise in HIV infections as very worrying and a major cause of concern.

Today is Irish AIDS day and the latest figures from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre reveal that there were 405 new cases of HIV infections in 2008 – an increase of just almost 4 per cent on 2007 figures.

Of the new cases 56, per cent of were among the heterosexual population with women making up 36 per cent of the total.
