Ahascragh is the designer capital again

WHATEVER the outcome of this year’s Academy awards for the Irish movie contenders, at least one Galway man will be onto a winner when two of the nominees make their appearance on the red carpet at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles this Sunday night.

Ahascaragh born dress designer Niall Tyrrell is one half of the of the Dublin fashion house Tyrrell & Brennan who have designed Oscar outfits for Tamara Angire, and Steph Greene, the producer and director of Irish made New Boy, which is up for a Best Live Action Short film award.

Forty year old Niall might not be as well known his fellow Ahascaragh designer, milliner Philip Treacy, but couturiers Tyrrell & Brennan have a huge reputation among fashion conscious Irish women.

Nor are the duo any strangers to the Oscar ceremonies, having previously designed outfits for other nominees including Enya when she was up for Best Song for Lord of the Rings in 2002. On that occasion she wore two of their dresses – one for the…
