A Salthill-based religious leader of the African community says he’s deeply concerned at the living conditions facing asylum seekers in the old Eglington Hotel on the Prom.

Reverend Dr Sahr Yambasu says the policy of keeping asylum seekers in the cramped confines of the old hotel for long periods of time is a human rights issue.

It follows an investigation by Salthill Gardai into the death of a 43-year-old asylum seeker who was a resident at the Eglington Hotel facility.
