ADDITIONAL RESOURCES TO EASE DELAYS IN DISPENSING HEPATITIS C TREATMENT AT UHG
Date Published: 07-Feb-2013
An agreement with the HSE to provide additonal pharmacy resources should now minimise delays for people with Hepatitis C in accessing treatment at hospitals, including UHG.
That’s according to the Irish Haemophilia Society which says life saving treatments should now be dispensed by hospital-based pharmacists with immediate effect.
The HSE says the treatment regime in question is being transitioned to a hospital setting as it is a complicated multi-drug process that requires significant pharmacy input to ensure the maximum benefit for patients.
It adds that the service plan for this year provides funding for the continued rollout of this service which will see the recruitment of additional hospital based pharmacists.
The Irish Haemophilia Society says that due to resource problems, there had been a limitation in many hospitals of a maximum of four patients at any one time on the treatment episode which lasts up to 12 months.
