RELEGATION battles aren’t pretty and they’re not meant to be either, but this week Menlough won’t worry too much about beauty and semantics after securing their senior football status for another year.

The green sward of Tuam Stadium had a little underlay of black as the recent run of matches and Winter weather left their mark, but apart from that, conditions were ideal for this survival battle.

Menlough were a little unexpectedly and belatedly thrust into this relegation dogfight but they never wallowed in any self-pity and always looked the sharper outfit in their bid to stay up with the ‘big boys’ next season.

Dunmore MacHales are one of the big names in Galway club football, immersed in the lore of football since the foundation of the GAA, but like a lot of rural based outfits they are struggling to produce the quantity of quality senior players to keep them afloat.
