Acclaimed ballet Romeo and Juliet for Town Hall Theatre

Ballet Ireland, The National Ballet of Ireland, will visit Galway’s Town Hall Theatre on Tuesday, May 1 at 8pm with its hugely successful production of Romeo and Juliet. The visit is part of a tour of six leading nationwide venues.

This work was first choreographed for Ballet Ireland by Morgann Runacre-Temple in 2010 and this national run is being undertaken due to demand by theatres and audiences.

Romeo and Juliet, the ballet is based on Shakespeare’s tale of the star-crossed lovers, and like the original play, is one of the greatest love stories of all time. Against a backdrop of ancient feuds and gang warfare, the ill-fated young people fall instantly and hopelessly in love. But their families are bitter enemies, and in order to be together the two lovers must be prepared to risk everything.

This production of Romeo and Juliet set to Sergei Prokofiev’s incredible score, will be performed by 16 top professional dancers, who have trained in the finest schools all over the world. The cast will be led by Dublin born, Zoe Ashe-Browne who created the role of Juliet in the original production, while Romeo will be played by David Horn.

Described by the Irish Times as “Ireland’s finest full-length production to date. Ashe-Browne and Horn deliver heart-stopping interpretations of the final scene. Runacre-Temple taps into a zeitgeist that so many other ballet companies desperately want to access right now. Runacre-Temple gets it”.

Morgann Runacre-Temple is choreographer in residence at Ballet Ireland and has made over nine works for the company. Her works have been performed at The Gaiety Theatre Dublin, Tate Modern, Royal Opera House 2, National Concert Hall Dublin and The Royal Academy of Music and The Place Theatre, London, Prejlocaj Theatre, Marseille, and have been toured nationwide in UK and Ireland.

Morgann was chosen as one of four choreographers to participate in Dancelines 2009 at The Royal Opera House with the Royal Ballet’s resident choreographer, Wayne McGregor. She will return to the Royal Opera House stage later this year to choreograph work for Royal Ballet dancers.
