ACCIDENTAL DEATH IN PLANE CRASH WHICH KILLED SALTHILL MAN

Local residents of a Roscommon village were praised this week for their quick action after a plane crash which claimed the life of Salthill man, Markus Casey.

51 year old, pilot, Markus Casey was killed instantly when his light aircraft crashed into a field at Kilmovee, Ballaghadereen, Roscommon on May 11th.

An inquest into Mr. Casey’s death held in Swinford, Co. Mayo yesterday heard evidence from his passenger, John Dunphy from Blackrock in Dublin.

According to today’s Irish Independent, Mr. Dunphy heard the pilot, Markus Casey making a distress call to air traffic control at Knock airport 5 minutes after take-off.

They had been headed towards Weston Aiport in Lucan Dublin.

The jury at the Inquest returned a verdict of accidental death.

Solicitor Frank Joyce thanked the local people who assisted at the crash and Gardaí and medical staff on behalf of the Casey family.
