ABOLITION OF TOWN COUNCILS LASED AS TUAM CELEBRATES 400TH
AS Tuam celebrated the 400th anniversary of it being given its charter as a town the Mayor Eamonn Kitt lamented the planned abolition of town councils next year.
He was speaking after Tuam Town Councillors and guests marched in ceremonial robes from the Town Hall to the ancient chair of Tuam this afternoon.
Guests at the event included the Mayor of Co Galway, Cllr Thomas Welby and Mayor of the City Cllr Terry O’Flaherty.
After hearing the Mayor’s oration, regarding Tuam’s illustrious past, the town councillors marchd back to the town hall where a stained glass Tuam 400 memorial plaque was unveiled and former town clerks were honoured.
Mayor Eamonn Kitt spoke of his sadness at the impending demise of town councils during his oration at the historic chair of Tuam.
