Abbey named tidiest village in Galway
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Abbey, Loughrea has scored the highest in Galway in the National Tidy Towns Competition.
It has received a bronze medal in the ‘Tidiest Village’ category, scoring 304 points and is the tidiest area in Galway.
Milltown also received a bronze medal in the same category as Abbey with 303 points and was highly commended in the county breakdown.
Monivea was also commended for scoring almost 300 points.
An Endeavour award was given to Craughwell for scoring 200 points – an 11 percent improvement on last year’s score.
In Galway’s ‘Tidiest Village’ category for a population of less than 200, Monivea scored highest, while Abbey was the top scorer for the ‘Tidiest Village’ with a population of 200 to 1000.
Galway’s ‘Tidiest Small Town’ with a population of 1 thousand to two and half thousand is Clifden.
The ‘Tidiest Small Town’ with a population of 2 thousand 500 to 5 thousand is Athenry.
Ballinasloe is the ‘Tidiest Large Town’ in Galway and the city centre gets the top spot in the ‘Large Urban Centre’ category.
Monivea also won the award for Best Bring Bank in the West.
