A feast for Galway foodies
The Galway Food Festival is set to trigger a culinary feast in the city this Easter weekend.
The opening of the festival will be performed by Michelin-star chef Oliver Dunne in The Kitchen restaurant at Galway City Museum.
Now in its third year, the festival aims to promote Galway as a good food destination and also to promote the importance of healthy eating.
“This Festival showcases the best of the Galway food scene and demonstrates the wealth of good food outlets there are in the city,” said festival chairman JP McMahon.
There are over 100 restaurants, food producers and food outlets taking part in the celebrations and there will be more than 70 events, ranging from cookery demonstrations to talks and debates across the five days.
There will be four open-markets throughout the course of the festival. This coming Friday and Saturday will see the Spanish Arch transforming into the Festival Village from 10am to 6pm.
The Woodquay Country Market is set to be one of the festival highlights. Open this Saturday, the businesses and residents of the area in conjunction with the Galway County and City Enterprise Board have put together an impressive programme for foodies and families to enjoy together.
The market will stretch from McSwiggan’s to Woodquay Court and it will play host to 30 local artisan food producers.
