A capacity entry of 150 for the Galway Summer Rally
THE Galway Motor Club hosts their popular Bluebird Care Galway Summer Rally, the penultimate round of the Triton Showers-backed Motorsport Ireland National Rally Championship on Sunday. The nine stage Athenry based event has attracted a capacity entry of 150 crews with a further 50 crews on a reserve list.
Even though the Monaghan/Limerick combination of Josh Moffett/Keith Moriarty have secured the title with six straight victories, second and third positions are still up for grabs as are many of the class awards.
The quest for event victory is an open contest with several of the top ten drivers capable of victory. Dubliner Robert Barrable (Ford Fiesta Rally2) heads the entry and will be seeking his first win of the season. He also has the opportunity to cement second overall in the eight-round series.
However, Warrenpoint’s Peadar Hurson (Ford Fiesta WRC) will be a most formidable opponent as he has won this event on no fewer than three occasions. Former Irish Tarmac rally champion Dubliner Gareth MacHale has made a return to the sport this season following a lengthy absence and will steer a right hand drive VW Polo GTi R5.
