95 PERCENT INCREASE IN ASSAULTS CAUSING HARM

There’s been a 95 percent increase in the number of serious assaults in the city in the last eight months.

Figures provided by Gardai this week show that 74 incidents were reported in the months from January to August.

This comes as public order offences are down by 22 percent with 795 incidents on record for the period.

Superintendent Marie Skehill told Galway Bay FM news that although assaults causing harm for the first half of the year have increased, that trend is now reversing.
