900 GALWAY HOMES LEFT VACANT

Almost 900 fully completed homes in Galway are unoccupied according to figures released by the Department of the Environment.

A country-wide survey was carried out during the Summer, with 112 housing developments examined in the city and county.

19 hundred houses and apartments in the city were examined and of this figure just over a thousand are occupied.

The remaining 890 are either complete and vacant, or partially complete or no building work has begun at all.

In the county, of the 3 and a half thousand homes looked at, less than half, 16 hundred, are occupied.
