9-year-old girl killed after bike hit by car

A 9-year-old girl has died after being hit by a car in Ballinasloe this morning, while a 7-year-old boy remains in a serious condition in hospital.

Both of the children were cycling their bikes when they were hit by a car at around 11.55am on the Ballinasloe to Ahascragh Road (R358).

Both children were taken to Portiuncula Hospital where the girl was later pronounced dead. The boy remains in a serious condition.

The road is currently closed for a forensic examination. Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information in relation to this incident to contact Ballinasloe Garda Station on 0909 631890.
