87 sex workers operating in Galway

A trawl through escort sites has revealed there were 87 women for sale in Galway on a single day last week in what is a major expansion of prostitution by criminals in the city.
The shocking figure was revealed by the Immigrant Council of Ireland, which has been campaigning for a major reform of the laws.
The escort agencies are nothing more than pimps according to Aibhlín O’Leary, the anti-trafficking officer in the Immigrant Council.
They are able to circumvent the laws against prostitution by having their computer servers and organisations based outside of the State.
Some 97% of the girls and women advertised in Galway are immigrants, most of whom have been illegally trafficked or coerced into selling their bodies as result of addiction or debt problems.
Galway is unique in Ireland for having virtually all of its prostitution based online – Dublin and Limerick have a significant problem with street prostitutes.
Compared to other cities, Galway has a much higher number of prostitutes touting their wares – yesterday there were 64 women for sale online in Limerick, while in Cork there were 75.
