Almost 8,000 people are waiting more than a year for an outpatient appointment at Galway’s public hospitals.
7,828 people were waiting more than 12 months to be called at UHG in April – almost double the figure for April 2016.
At Portiuncula hospital in Ballinasloe, 235 outpatients are waiting more than a year for an appointment.
Meanwhile, there are over 11,500 patients waiting for day-case procedures at the two hospitals.
Galway Roscommon TD Eugene Murphy said public anger and distress over the situation is reaching boiling point.
