800 evacuated after pepper spray scare

TWO youths seem likely to face court proceedings in relation to the release of pepper spray at a Galway cinema over the weekend which led to the evacuation of over 800 people.

Gardai investigating the case now believe that two youths were involved in the release of the pepper spray in the underground car-park of the Eye Cinema at Wellpark on Sunday night.

The incident occurred at around 10pm when come cinema goers complained of an irritating feeling to their eyes and throat — as a precautionary measure all patrons were evacuated. Gardai are now linking the incident at the Eye to another episode over an hour later in the Salthill area.

Here pepper spray was used by the occupant of car at the service area of Kelleher’s Service Station — Gardaí were notified and a short time later a youth was stopped in a car by Gardaí and arrested.
