€68m compo is unclaimed

Galway people with relatives who were wrongly charged for public residential care still have a whopping €68 million to claim in compensation — but time is rapidly running out on them.

People eligible for repayment under the Health Repayment Scheme, are being urged to submit their applications before the closing date of December 31st next.

Around 1,180 claims totalling repayments of €7.8 million have already been lodged by people from Galway city and county, but it is estimated that there could be millions of euro left unclaimed in Galway.

Repayment amounts in Galway have ranged from a few euros to almost €125,000 in the case of one individual, with the average repayment amount being around €27,000.
