Ros-Galway: 2nd Count: Fitzmaurice edges closer

The results of the second count in the Roscommon-Galway constituency has seen Independent Michael Fitzmaurice edge closer to the quota but failing to get elected.

He is now just 457 votes shy of getting the second seat after the 2,515 surplus votes of fellow independent Denis Naughten were distributed, of which he received 1,214.

In third place is now Fine Gael’s Maura Hopkins, who benefited from 505 transfers, giving her 7,317 votes, marginally ahead of Eugene Murphy (FF), who is now on 7,157.

Independent candidate Thomas Fallon is now eliminated and his 88 votes are now being distributed for the third count.
