Six people remain in Garda custody this morning following a major drugs seizure at locations across the county at the weekend.

Gardai seized an estimated three quarters of a million euro worth of cannabis in the Turloughmore, Dunmore and Oughterard areas on Saturday.

Six people, five men and a woman, ranging in age from their 20s to 50s were arrested in connection with the seizures.

They’re being detained at Galway and Loughrea Garda stations under Section Two of the Criminal Justice Drugs Trafficking Act.

The six detained are all understood to be people who have come to live here from the Far East and they can be detained by the Gardai for up to seven days.

This major drugs haul is part of an ongoing operation by the Gardai who have been targeting those involved in drugs dealing across the West and particularly in County Galway.
