6 MONTHS FOR BETTER CITY TRAFFIC FLOW
Date Published: 11-Oct-2011
Traffic flow in and around Galway city could improve in the next months, according to the Head of Galway’s Transporation Unit.
Elmore Group has just been awarded the 1.2 million euro contract to set up an Urban Traffic Control centre in the city.
Over the next 6 months, Elmore in partnership with Swarco Traffic Limited will install 27 intersections – meaning all these junctions will relate information to each other and back to the UTC in City Hall.
Councillor Catherine Connolly told the meeting she wasn’t convinced by the information she was presented with and said there are traffic lights in the city in places where they are not needed.
Head of Galway Transportation Unit, Joe Tansey said the UTC won’t reduce the volume of traffic in and out of the city, but it will move better as a result and motorists won’t be delayed as long in certain areas.
