6 MILLION EURO IN HEALTH INSURANCE OWED TO CITY PUBLIC HOSPITALS
Date Published: 05-Sep-2012
The Chairman of the HSE West regional forum is calling for swift action to recoup unpaid health insurance claims owed to public hospitals in the city.
Councillor Padraig Conneely says private insurance companies owe up to 6 million euro to University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park Hospital.
It’s understood a portion of the debt is owed for almost 6 months, and comes at a time when both hospitals are facing cuts to their budget before the end of the year.
The Galway/Roscommon hospital group is currently reviewing its books in an effort to make savings that will contribute to the HSE national cuts of 130 million euro.
Councillor Padraig Conneely says the amount outstanding to public hospitals in the city is ‘unacceptable’.
