Galway Bay fm newsroom:
At least six Galway TDs are entitled to payments of over €100,000 as part of their positions in government.
The six-figure payments include the representative’s base wage along with top up allowances depending on his or her role.
Minister for Communication and the Environment, Roscommon-Galway Independent TD Denis Naughten tops the Galway figures with a total possible salary of over €163,000.
Other Galway representatives breaking the €100,000 mark are Fine Gael Junior Ministers Ciaran Cannon of Galway East and Sean Kyne of Galway West and Fine Gael Galway West Deputy Hildegarde Naughton, as well as Independents Catherine Connolly and Sean Canney.
Nationally, 65 TDs are entitled to salaries of over €100,000, with three more eligible for a wage of €99,000.
While entitled to supplemental allowances for holding ministries or sitting on Oireachtas committees, TDs may opt to give these extra payments back.
Independent TD for Roscommon-Galway Michael Fitzmaurice, says while some deputies return the extra payments, many do not.
