54 FAMILIES TO BE HOMED UNDER NEW LEASE SCHEME
Date Published: 09-Feb-2010
54 families on the city council’s housing list are to be offered vacant affordable homes.
City councillors voted at a meeting last night to lease out the 54 unsold affordable homes to housing association Cluid, which will manage the renting of the units to families on the housing list.
The controversial proposal prompted heated debate, with 9 councillors voting in favour of leasing to Cluid, while 6 councillors voted against.
Director of Services Joe O’Neill told the meeting that the council was refused funding to allow the houses be used to accommodate families on the social housing list.
But he said leasing the 54 units to Cluid would help the council’s interest payments on the units and allow 54 families to get off the housing list for 5 years.
