500 JOBS TO GO AS ABBOT MERVUE TO CLOSE

One of Galways biggest employers is to close with the loss of 500 jobs.

Abbott Vascular based at Mervue IDA park, informed staff at a meeting this afternoon that the plant would close by September next year.

The company has said they have excess manufacturing capacity globally and have decided to close the Galway plant and another plant in California.
