50 horses seized from Galway owner due to animal welfare concerns
Galway Bay fm newsroom – 50 horses belonging to one Galway owner have recently been put down for animal welfare reasons.
The Department of Agriculture has confirmed the seizure and says the same owner has several hundred other horses.
Their future is now also being considered.
The Irish Times reports that some 85 horses were also impounded in Cork last month in one of the biggest operations in the country.
Galway Senator Fidelma Healy Eames says it highlights the chronic need for an economic solution to the problem.
