5 star hotel would “loom” over the West

The proposed five-star hotel on the Connacht Laundry site in ‘The West’ would loom over the entire residential neighbourhood because of its size and cause traffic chaos on already jammed narrow streets, local residents have warned.
In an objection to the planning application from Jaytar Ltd for the site on Henry Street, the West Residents Association raise concerns about the size and height of the proposed development, traffic flow in nearby streets, as well as noise during construction and once opened.
They also have fears that the construction work may cause damage to local houses and have health and safety issues arising from the proposed ESB substation.
The developers paid €30m for the 2.1 acre site and are expected to invest a further €50m in the development. According to the project’s backers, the hotel will be in a similar vein to the new Ritz Carlton in Wicklow.
