5% decline in number of Galway marriages
Galway Bay fm newsroom – There has been a five percent decrease in the number of marriages recorded across Galway city and county.
Almost 12 hundred marriages were recorded across Galway city and county in 2011.
The figures compiled by the Central Statistics Office show that 206 such unions were recorded in the city in 2011, with a further 990 in the county.
This compares to 1196 in 2010 with 200 in the city and 1065 recorded in the county.
The majority of Galway couples chose Catholic marriages with 659 in the county and 158 in the city.
