Man accused of raping girl in cemetery
Two men charged with the rape of a girl at city locations between 1985 and 1995, were sent forward for trial at Galway District Court on Monday.
When initially charged in June, one of the men (43) replied: “It didn’t happen” to all charges, while the second (57) had nothing to say. Neither can be named for legal reasons.
The first man faces a total of 15 charges, including raping the girl at locations which include two residential addresses, Rahoon Cemetery, and a field near Castlepark in Ballybane.
The second man faces 10 counts of raping the girl at one residential address on various dates between 1988 and 1995.Inspector Mick O’Dwyer advised the court that the DPP had consented to both accused being sent forward for trial, or sent forward for sentencing on signed pleas, to the next sitting of the Central Criminal Court.
They were each granted free legal aid for a solicitor, junior counsel, and senior counsel, before being returned on bail with the same conditions.
