4 houses to be knocked for new NUIG entrance

Authorities in NUI Galway have furnished city planners with further information in relation to their plans to demolish four private houses on Distillery Road in Newcastle and re-house residents in Dangan, to make way for a new entrance to the university.
Last year, plans were lodged with Galway City Council to construct the new entrance on Newcastle Road, in order to combat increasing traffic pressure in the area. The plans involve the demolition of four houses, number 2, 4, 6 and 41 on Lower Newcastle Road between Distillery Rd and the Statoil filling station, and authorities have entered into agreements with the homeowners.
The plans stated that the new entrance would remove the existing traffic lights from Distillery Road and create a correctly timed traffic light junction that would be more efficient than the existing entrance with larger, correctly- designed turning lanes and viewing angles which will ………………
