4% drop in unemployment in Galway
Galway Bay newsroom – Unemployment in Galway has decreased slightly.
There were 22 thousand 760 people on the Live Register in the city and county at the end of August, a drop of 244 on the figure at the end of July.
Clifden saw the largest drop in unemployment last month, with 61 people coming off the Live Register.
There are now just over 11 hundred people out of work in the Clifden area.
Ballinasloe saw a similar drop with 59 people coming off the Live Register in August.
46 people came off the Live Register in the city last month, leaving its unemployment figure at just over 11 thousand 900.
In Tuam, 43 people came off the Live Register in August, leaving the number of people out of work at just over 3 thousand 300.
There was a slight decrease in unemployment in Loughrea last month, where 23 people came off the Live Register.
The smallest drop in unemployment in August was in Gort where 12 people came off social welfare.
