€3bn development under threat

Redevelopment plans for the Docks area have been seriously jeopardised by a new freeze on all planning within 400 metres of a new oil tank ‘farm’ under construction there, the Galway City Tribune can exclusively reveal.

A new report on safety regulations prepared for Galway City Council warns that development works could be ‘stifled’ by Health & Safety Authority advice. It advises the Council that if they accept HSA advice, it will “impose very severe restrictions on development in the city centre area”.

Now, Galway West TD Frank Fahey has called on CIE and the Galway Harbour Board to join forces and create an overall strategy for the regeneration of the Docks and Ceannt Station — already estimated to cost around €3billion.

According to Deputy Fahey, any plans for the redevelopment of the Docks are already being seriously threatened by the new oil tank ‘farm’ under construction in the Harbour Enterprise Park. A new report on land use prepared for the City Council suggests…..
