35 jobs lost as well- known city firms shut their doors

Two well-known city businesses have closed their doors in the past week, with the loss of a total of 36 jobs.

Castle Print in the Liosban Industrial Estate shut down this week, with the loss of 30 jobs, while 1 Stop Travel in Eyre Square ceased trading last Friday, where six people were employed.

The travel agency said it intends to honour all existing bookings and to refund vouchers.

Colm McDonagh – who has been a travel agent since 1981 – said it was a “sad day” closing the doors of 1 Stop Travel last Friday morning.

However, he has vowed to ensure all existing holiday bookings are honoured and that vouchers are refunded.

In a statement on the agency’s website, Mr McDonagh said: “We have after much soul-searching and some very difficult years taken this decision due mainly to the residuals of what has been a very challenging trading climate during the recent very difficult recession, and the seemingly unstoppable march of the internet.

“All bookings currently being deal with in our office will be honoured and a member of our staff will be in contact with each customer in due course.”
