Almost 30 percent of people living in the city and unemployed last year were from countries outside of Ireland.

The latest CSO figures reveal that just under 2 thousand people from areas such as Africa, Asia and Europe were seeking employment in Galway.

Out of a total of 7,080 unemployed in the city last year, the majority or 4,993 were of Irish origin.

1,987 foreign nationals identified themselves as unemployed, while 100 people did not state their nationality.
