3 ARRESTED AND SEARCH FOR 2 MORE AFTER RAID ON LACKAGH HOME

Three men have been arrested after a woman and four children were held at gunpoint at their home in Galway last night.

Five men armed with guns entered the house in Lackagh at around ten to nine last night.

They tied up the four children with cable ties and threatened the family.

Two neighbours arrived at the scene a short time later along with Gardaí.

Four of the raiders managed to escape from the scene after one officer was hit with a pick axe and another threatened with a gun – however, one of the men was arrested at the house.

Another two men were subsequently arrested at a checkpoint set up in the surrounding area.

They 3 men are being questioned at Millstreet Garda Station in the city.

The family, who were not injured, are said to be traumatised by the incident.
