Galway local authorities are hoping to scoop most of a 300 million euro national Gateway Innovation Fund for three projects in the county.

The Government is allocating 300 million between the 9 gateway cities for unique stand-alone projects that cannot be funded by any other means.

Galway county and city councils have jointly submitted a 270 million euro proposal to build a new town centre in Ardaun on the outskirts of Galway city, an iconic Concert hall and extra rail links between Galway and Athenry.

The Department of the Environment will decide how much Galway will get in February 2008.
