Figures provided by An Garda Siochana show that the number dropped by 26 percent on the same period in 2011.

All of the 268 Galway missing person cases for 2012 have now been accounted for.

The data shows that there were 363 missing persons recorded in the Galway area in 2011.

Only one of these people remains missing.

Each year approximately 8,000 people are reported missing in Ireland.

Justice Minister Alan Shatter launched Ireland’s first national Missing Persons Day at Farmleigh House in Dublin last month.

Missing Persons Day will now take place each year on the first Wednesday in December.
