25 MILLION EURO IN GALWAY ‘BIG FREEZE’ CLAIMS

Insurers paid out 24.7 million euro in claims to Galway homeowners affected by last winter’s ‘Big Freeze’.

According to the Irish Insurance Federation, the severe weather cost insurers 106 thousand euro per one thousand people in Galway.

30 thousand claims were made for damage caused by burst pipes – the majority in Galway, along with Dublin and Cork.

The cost of home insurance looks set to rise by about ten percent.
