Date Published: 30-Jan-2012
Almost 23 million euro will be spent on roads in Galway city and county this year, broadly in line with last year’s figure.
The National Roads Authority has allocated 20.6 million euro to the County Council and 2.1 million euro to the City Council.
Galway West T.D Seán Kyne says among the projects to benefit from 300 thousand euro each are a stretch of road from Barna to Ros an Mhíl and the R340 Derryrush Road.
In the city, 400 thousand euro will be spent on Wolfe Tone Bridge.
Half a million euro will be spent on the Athenry relief road while a further 158 thousand euro will be spent on the design stage for the Claregalway relief road.
Safety works will also be carried out at Carrowmoneen, Tuam; Castlefrench Cross; Cregmore Cross; Gortroe Corrandulla; Moorfield, Eyrecourt and Loughrea Town.
Speaking to Galway Bay Fm News, Galway East T.D Colm Keaveney, says the funding will help improve roads damaged during bad weather.
