21 local roads closed across South Galway

Galway Bay fm newsroom – 21 local roads have been closed across South Galway due to heavy flooding.

Many of the roads have been deemed impassable by Galway County Council and now have restricted access.

The Newtown Tirneevin, Drumminalough, Caherpeak, and Loughaunawadda to Skehanagh roads are all closed.

Other closures include Mannin; Newhall; Carrawbaun; Owenbriste;Grannagh;Crannagh;Tirneevin;Cahermore to Northampton and Ballyboy.

Galway County Council has also closed roads at Ballynastaig; Raheen-Kiltartan; Rathwilladoon,Tubber; Caherawoneen; Termon; Ballylee;Dromorehill and Cloghballymore.

It comes as a report from the Environmental Protection Agency is warning the government must begin preparing to cope with extreme weather in the future.

The report from scientists at NUI Maynooth recommends new regulations be put in place to make sure new buildings can take the kind of conditions that are becoming more common in Ireland.
