20 percent drop in county crime rate

Galway bay fm newsroom – There’s been a 20 percent drop in overall crime in the county.

The figures, revealed at this week’s meeting of the county joint policing committee show over 3,800 recorded incidents in the first seven months of this year.

That’s 21 percent down on the same period last year.

Burglary in the county is down by 13 percent compared to 2012, with 232 incidents recorded between January and July.

The number of public order offences has dropped by 45 percent with 189 reported offences, while drink driving offences have dropped by 5 percent with 133 incidents.

However, theft from person and shop is up drastically by 21 percent and 38 percent respectively.
