190 on trolleys in two weeks

MORE than 190 patients were left waiting on trolleys in the corridors of University Hospital Galway in the past two weeks as the A&E overcrowding crisis resurfaced at the city hospital.

Last week was one of the worst in recent times forA&E overcrowding at UHG as more than 100 people were left waiting on trolleys, according to the latest ‘Trolley Watch’ figures released by the Irish Nursing Organisation.

On Tuesday of last week the situation reached crisis point with 40 patients on trolleys waiting to be admitted to the hospital, six of whom had intravenous infusions and had to be treated in the public waiting room of the A&E unit.

A spokesperson for the local branch of INO said that the situation was distressing for patients and their families, nurses, doctors and hospital management. She said that…………
