17,000 outpatients waiting more than 12 months at city public hospitals
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Management at the city’s public hospitals has vowed to meet its outpatient waiting list target by the end of the year.
It follows a meeting with Galway and Roscommon TDs and members of the HSE West Regional Health Forum today. (6/9)
Latest HSE figures show that over 17 thousand people are on the outpatient waiting list for University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park Hospital for almost a year.
However, waiting lists at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe have been reduced by more than 4 thousand with a maximum waiting time of 9 months.
Those attending the meeting were also briefed on hospital projects such as the planned new 75 bed unit at UHG and 50 bed unit at Portiuncula.
Roscommon Independent T.D, Denis Naughten, says hospitals have to meet targets and provide appointments for patients.
