Galway Bay fm newsroom – Up to 150 people turned out to a meeting last night to discuss the future of the postal service in Caherlistrane.
The community had lost the full post office service almost 6 years ago, but a scaled back service had been operating from the shop.
This service was transferred to Headford Post Office last month (May) when the shop which operated it closed and the lease expired.
The shop is now due to reopen under new management this day week (June 20) and the local community community is hoping the post office service can be returned.
County Cathaoirleach Mary Hoade and Galway East Fine Gael TD Paul Connaughton are to meet An Post next week as part of a local delegation.
Last evening’s meeting follows public meetings in Barnaderg and Cappataggle recently where communities are also fighting to retain their local post offices.
