15 prosecutions for underage selling of alcohol before Galway courts
15 prosecutions for the underage selling of alcohol in the city centre and suburbs are expected to come before the courts in the coming months.
It’s follows two test purchase operations under section 37c of the intoxicating liquor act in the Galway Garda district late last year.
Last November, Gardaí visited 35 licensed premises in the city centre and immediate suburbs and recorded 9 failures.
At a prior operation in August, 35 businesses were visited and 8 premises failed.
Two of these prosecutions have already finished at Galway district court, and one closure order was ordered.
Prosecutions for the remaining 15 detections have begun.
City Councillor Neil MCNeilis says he hopes such detections will continue through the year to deter such activity.
