From this week’s Galway City Tribune – Gardaí are pursuing a definite line of inquiry into an unprovoked assault on a 13-year-old boy in the city that left him with serious facial injuries.

The incident occurred in the Eyre Square area on the afternoon of Friday, March 4, when the victim was set upon by three other people – all understood to be in their early teens.

As a result of the assault that occurred shortly after 3.30pm, the 13-year-old suffered a broken nose and other facial injuries – he was subsequently taken by ambulance to University Hospital Galway for treatment.

The victim is understood to have made a good recovery, but Gardaí are anxious for anyone who witnessed the incident – or who may have information of assistance to them – to make contact.

A Garda spokesperson said that they were taking a very serious view of what was an unprovoked and random assault on the teenager.
